Philip R. Goodwin (1881–1935) painted scenes of the outdoors and the American West for The Saturday Evening Post.  He also created illustrations for Outdoor Life and Collier’s. His most well-known illustrations were for The Call of the Wild by Jack London.

Goodwin studied at The Rhode Island School of Design, The Art Students League, and The Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry. He was one of the first members of Howard Pyle’s Brandywine School, along with fellow artists N.C. Wyeth, Thornton Oakley, and Frank Schoonover.
