A sixth-generation Colorado native, whose family homesteaded near Estes Park, award-winning artist, Donna Cox has been drawing animals for as long as she can remember. Essentially a self-taught artist, working primarily in oil and pencil, her work reflects her love and respect for wildlife and the environment. Her background as a veterinary technician, as well as an enthusiasm for hunting and the outdoors, have greatly contributed to her ability to accurately portray animals in their natural habitat. She is a member of Oil Painters of America and Women Artists of the West.

“My love of wildlife and the natural world are the main reasons that my work has always focused on animals. I hope that through my art, I can help to raise people’s awareness of how precious our land and wildlife are.”

Her meticulous attention to detail as well as an ability to infuse that essential spark of life into her subjects, sets her work apart. As a patron of Donna’s work, western singer, Michael Martin Murphy says, “Donna Cox captures the soul of the animals she paints. Her renditions of various species show each creature as an individual spirit. Just as human beings are all unique, so are the animals of Donna’s universe!”

Married since 1978, Donna lives with her husband, best friend, supporter and critic, Jack, in the mountains southwest of Denver. They have two sons and numerous pets. Avid conservationists, she and her family have donated and given their time to numerous conservation organizations.
